English

We will be starting with writing some instructions on ‘How a robot dog works’ before exploring a book called ’The Secret of Black Rock’ by Joe Todd-Stanton. There will be a continued focus on the basic skills of writing, handwriting and on broadening vocabulary across a range of writing genres.

Reading

This term, we will be reading the fantastic, ‘Varjak Paw’ by S.F  Said, a book taken from our Y3 recommended reads. We will study the book in our reading lessons, along with exploring other texts linked to our wider curriculum for our writing.

Continuing from September, we are again asking the children to read five times at home. We ask for your support in this by logging these reads on Boom Reader. Our reading raffle continues so fingers crossed your child could be picked out next, remember every week that your child achieves their five reads at home will earn them a ticket in the raffle! It would be   fantastic if you could, whenever      possible, discuss what they are reading with them. If you notice your child  hasn’t been changing their reading book or isn’t coming home with one, please email the class teacher so we can get this sorted quickly.

Other areas of the curriculum

This term, we will be looking at the Romans again in History. We will be exploring our local area in Geography including working on our map skills in physical Geography and how our area has evolved for the growing population in human Geography.  In Science, once finishing off our plant unit we will be focusing on our bodies and how our skeleton and muscles support our movement.  R.E we will be exploring ‘Why do festivals and worship matter to a Muslim’ and ‘Making the World a better place’ In RHSE, we will be discussing being fit and healthy and then our dreams and ambitions.

P.E.

Year 3 will continue to have PE on a Tuesday afternoon. Children should come to school in their PE kit instead of their school uniform. PE kit must consist of black shorts or black/ navy jogging bottoms, white t-shirt (with or without the school logo) and trainers. They should wear a plain black / navy   jumper if required. Please ensure that if your child has earrings, these should be removed at home before coming to school or tape should be provided to cover them.

PPA/Swimming

PPA will still take place on Thursday afternoon. This term, 3L and 3C will need to come into school on this day in their PE kit.  3W will be swimming every Thursday, so they will need to come into school in their school uniform but bring their swimming kit.

Homework

In the summer term, in addition to home reading, we will be handing out weekly times tables and spelling homework. This will be handed out on a Monday, and will be checked the following Monday. The spellings and times tables will be linked to our learning in school that week, so this will give you an opportunity to discuss their learning with them and support them in deepening their understanding.
