PE and Sport Premium
At Trinity Primary School, we believe that physical education plays an important role in promoting healthy, active lifestyles while developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. We aim to provide an inclusive, engaging and challenging PE curriculum that enables every child to develop physically, socially and emotionally, regardless of their starting point.
Our PE curriculum follows the GetSet4PE scheme of work, ensuring progression of knowledge, skills and vocabulary from EYFS through to Year 6. Throughout their time at Trinity, pupils experience a broad and balanced curriculum, developing fundamental movement skills before applying these through a wide range of sports and physical activities, including games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, outdoor and adventurous activities, striking and fielding, net and wall games, invasion games and swimming.
Children receive two one-hour PE lessons each week. One lesson is delivered by the class teacher, ensuring PE remains an integral part of the wider curriculum, while the second lesson is delivered during PPA time by a qualified sports coach. During one term of each academic year, this PPA session is replaced with on-site swimming instruction, enabling every child to access a structured programme of swimming lessons throughout their primary education.
Beyond curriculum PE, we are committed to helping children achieve the Chief Medical Officers' recommendation of at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. Pupils benefit from active play opportunities through our OPAL programme, structured lunchtime activities, after-school sports clubs, targeted interventions and opportunities to participate in a range of extracurricular sporting experiences.
We are proud to work in partnership with Stride Active, the School Games Organiser (SGO) Network and Herefordshire FA, providing pupils with regular opportunities to represent the school in festivals, competitions and sporting events throughout the year. These experiences help children develop teamwork, leadership, resilience, confidence and sportsmanship, while encouraging participation and enjoyment of sport beyond the classroom.
